Android app to share links easily on the Source Institute forum

I’ve noticed I tend to come across useful links on my phone, but there’s no easy way to share them here, so I commissioned an Android app to make it easy.

This app simply adds “Share On Source Institute” to your android’s share menu. If you click it, it creates a draft post with the link and whatever you’ve copied to your clipboard.

My view is that if a link is worth sharing, it’s worth adding at least a quick comment as to why it’s worth reading and what you saw in it that’s relevant.

My hope is that if we share links on the forum, they are able to be read at a more convenient time (rather than be forgotten in the scroll back of Telegram groups), and that if a useful discussion comes up, it’s in a place where we can all access it more easily.

This is a functional prototype, so if you use it, please let me know. If this is useful, I can make an iOS version and also take your feedback to improve a future version.

Updated version - it now does better at reading in the title of the link you’re sharing, and it’ll automatically quote what’s in your clipboard. So you can:

  1. Highlight and copy an interesting bit.
  2. Hit the share button
  3. Choose Share On Source Institute
